MOMEK Group secures contract with Nova Sea AS to build the world’s largest holding tanks for salmon
(From left): Börkur Arnason, Factory Manager at Nova Sea, Gøran Nerdal, CEO of MOMEK Civil, Roger Skatland, CEO of MOMEK Group, Wiggo Dahlmo, Chairman of MOMEK Group, Tom Eirik Aasjord, Managing Director of Nova Sea, and Bjørn Olvik, Commercial Director of Nova Sea, are pleased that the agreement is in place.
MOMEK Group will produce the world’s largest land-based holding tanks for salmon. Nova Sea AS is building a new slaughter and processing facility for salmon at Lovund, and an important part of this is “Project K6 Holding Tanks,” for which MOMEK Group has won the contract. Before the salmon is transported to the slaughterhouse, it will be held in these large tanks.
The contract is a large multidisciplinary project, where MOMEK’s delivery includes piping, concrete work, steelwork, electrical installation including automation, and consulting engineering services. The project requires around 50 full-time equivalents, and the facility is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2026, with a Site Acceptance Test 2. MOMEK Group will handle most of the work with its own resources, but will also collaborate with local subcontractors.
Proud supplier
MOMEK Group is proud to have won the contract and looks forward to close collaboration to deliver a successful project.
“This is an important contract for MOMEK Group, where we can apply our multidisciplinary expertise. Our extensive experience in the relevant work areas ensures that we can meet all the project’s requirements and expectations,” says Knut Bratland, Project Manager at MOMEK Group. “We will work closely with technology provider MMC First Process AS on the installation of the processing part, as this will be delivered by them as a subcontractor.”
MOMEK Group has previously delivered pier expansion, office buildings, and slaughterhouses for Nova Sea, in addition to several service assignments. MOMEK Group also has several reference projects in close proximity to Nova Sea at Lovund, such as Lovund Hotel and Lovund Multipurpose Hall.
Importance of a local supplier
The new slaughterhouse at Lovund will be able to handle 500 tons of slaughtered fish per day. An innovation for Nova Sea at the new facility is precisely the land-based holding tanks that MOMEK will deliver.
“For us, it is especially gratifying that a local contractor can build this structure. The fact that our projects create significant ripple effects in Helgeland and Nordland is clearly demonstrated by this contract,” says Tom Eirik Aasjord, Managing Director at Nova Sea.
The contractors working on the site have a busy fall ahead, but soon the outlines of the slaughterhouse will begin to take shape. The six holding tanks that MOMEK will deliver will be 23 meters in diameter and 9 meters high.
“The holding tank project is a very important part of the slaughterhouse design, allowing us to deliver the best possible quality salmon to our customers. We are excited to see the tanks take shape on the site and to witness a bustling construction site,” says Aasjord.
Bjørn Sletten, Construction Manager at OSPAS, Knut Bratland, Project Manager at MOMEK Civil, Trond Tråsdahl, Project Manager for K6, and Espen Gleinsvåg, Project Manager at Nova Sea, are pleased to get started on the site.
