Today, MOMEK had the honour of welcoming Norway’s Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre, to our facilities in Mo i Rana. The visit was initiated by the Prime Minister’s Office with the intention of gaining insight into how industrial companies like MOMEK are contributing to regional growth while fostering inclusion, wellbeing, and sustainable development.
We are proud to be recognized for our commitment to both innovation and people – and appreciated the opportunity to share how we work strategically to support our employees through welfare initiatives such as MOMEK Hub, a space designed to promote collaboration, learning, and a healthy work-life balance.
Emphasizing Cross-Border Collaboration and Energy Security
During the visit, together with representatives from Mo Industripark, we addressed key challenges and opportunities facing the northern industrial sector. A central topic was the importance of cross-border collaboration – particularly how we can work seamlessly with partners and clients across Scandinavia and Europe.
We also discussed the critical need for stable and predictable access to energy in order to ensure long-term competitiveness for Norwegian industry. As energy-intensive sectors continue to grow in the region, this topic remains high on our agenda.
Removing Trade Barriers and Strengthening Global Market Access
Another key issue raised was the importance of reducing or eliminating trade barriers, such as customs duties and regulatory obstacles that limit the competitiveness of Norwegian exporters.
Our customers operate globally, and our ability to support them hinges on smooth logistics and open market access. Continued political efforts to simplify cross-border trade are vital to ensuring Norwegian industry can grow and compete internationally.
Supporting Innovation, Skills Development and the Green Transition
MOMEK emphasized our strong engagement in projects that contribute to a sustainable and resilient industrial future in the north. We discussed the importance of targeted support for:
-
Innovation and research
-
Upskilling and talent development
-
Green technology and transition initiatives
In an increasingly competitive global environment, long-term investment in these areas is essential for driving growth, securing jobs, and supporting climate goals.
A Call to Reassess Capital Taxation
One of the key points we raised with the Prime Minister was the need to remove taxation on productive assets and working capital. Today’s system limits reinvestment capacity for companies that want to expand, modernize, or adapt to new market demands.
By reassessing this policy, we believe authorities can unlock significant value and growth potential across Norwegian industry.
A Shared Commitment to the North
We sincerely thank Prime Minister Støre for taking the time to visit MOMEK and for his engagement in the issues that matter most to our business, our people, and our region. We look forward to continued collaboration with national and regional authorities to strengthen industry in Northern Norway – and to ensure it remains competitive, inclusive, and sustainable for generations to come.
